Enhancing your self-esteem

Self-esteem is a crucial aspect of a person’s mental health. It refers to how we perceive ourselves and our worth as individuals. When we have high self-esteem, we tend to feel more confident, capable, and resilient.

Here are some ways to help you enhance your self-esteem.

Practice self-care:

Engage in activities that make you feel good about yourself, such as exercising, meditating, arts, or spending time with loved ones.

Challenge negative self-talk:

Identify negative thoughts, stop and breathe when a negative thought comes into you mind and replace it with a positive affirmation. Do this every time you have a negative thought.

Set realistic goals:

Break down big goals into smaller, achievable ones. When you make them smaller and realistic you are more like to achieve them and don’t forget to celebrate your progress along the way.

Learn a new skill:

Acquiring new skills and knowledge can boost your confidence and self-worth. This can be a course, reading a book or just trying new things.

Surround yourself with positive people:

When you surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, you will feel so much more positive. Their positive energy will flow into you.

“Surround yourself with people who believe in your dreams, encourage your ideas, support your ambitions, and bring out the best in you.”

~ Roy T. Bennett

Practice gratitude:

Focus on the good things in your life and express gratitude for them regularly. Try starting a gratitude journal and write 3 things you are grateful for each day.

Take care of your physical health:

Eating a healthy diet full of real foods, getting enough quality sleep, and staying hydrated at least 2 litres of water a day can all contribute to a more positive self-image.

Volunteer:

Helping others can boost self-esteem and provide a sense of purpose. Anything where you are serving others makes you feel a sense of belonging and achievement.

Practice self-compassion:

Treat yourself with kindness and understanding, just as you would a friend. You wouldn’t tell your friend they were ugly or fat, so don’t say it to yourself.

Seek support when needed:

Don’t be afraid to seek help if you’re struggling with low self-esteem. Reach out for some support through coaching, working together we can work through any issues you may be dealing with.
